Sapiens Prime Directives

Sapiens Prime Directives

The possibility of building machines that are intelligent in the sense that we perceive ourselves to be intelligent has always been accompanied by a very reasonable concern: how can we make sure our creations will always serve us and not the other way around?

The Chatbot Controversy

The Chatbot Controversy

People familiar with New Sapience know we are one of the few companies that claim to be making progress towards Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). OpenAI is another. Many of our followers and investors want to get our take on the current controversy surrounding OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other Large Language Models (LLMs). The issues are not something that can be fairly dealt with in a couple of Twitter posts. So here is a concise roadmap to the controversy and how it looks from the New Sapience perspective.

Aspirational AI

Aspirational AI

It happens like this: someone has a theory about what intelligence is and develops some software to implement it. Even if it does not work or doesn’t do anything that looks like intelligence, it is still considered “AI” because that is what they were aspiring to create.

The Hidden Structure of Knowledge

The Hidden Structure of Knowledge

Complex ideas are aggregates of simpler ones. The inescapable conclusion is that, if you keep decomposing ideas into their components, at some point you get to the end, or rather the beginning. This is the same conjecture that Democritus made about the material world: if you keep breaking things apart, eventually you get to the indivisible pieces he called “atoms.”

Artificial Neural Networks

Artificial Neural Networks

Today, the technical community, including Big Tech, government and academia have embraced artificial neural networks (ANNs) and Machine Learning (ML) as their preferred methodology. While this “data science” has led to many amazing applications that are impacting the way we live and work, misconceptions about what it is and its potential are widespread.

How We Got Here

How We Got Here

Some inventions, like our sapiens, come “out of left field,” the result of a series of unforeseeable influences and events, pieces of a puzzle that come together at a certain point in time independent of and often contrary to the technology mainstream.

Knowledge and Intelligence

Knowledge and Intelligence

The relationship between language and knowledge has fascinated philosophers since ancient times. One theory is that language is a prerequisite for knowledge and that knowledge cannot exist without it. We talk as though language contains knowledge. But a simple thought experiment proves otherwise.

Our Course:

New Sapience 101

Synthetic Intelligence is a completely unprecedented and even contrarian approach to AI with the potential to achieve the long-awaited machines with human-level intelligence in just a few years.

Being unique and unprecedented has its challenges. When investors evaluate a new technology, they go through a process called technical due-diligence where they canvas experts in the field to get second opinions.

But what if there are no outside experts? “We’re sorry Mr. Gutenberg, we liked your printing press idea but when we checked with the book experts down on the Street of Scribes, they said it would never work.”

This four- and half-hour course of 9 sessions provides the background needed to understand what we have created and its potential. No prior technical knowledge of other current or previous approaches to AI is required or even helpful.

What People Are Saying About New Sapience 101

After watching the Youtube videos I have been absolutely convinced that New Sapience is going to change the world for the better. Wow!! Thank you, Bryant Cruse and the team for a wonderful technology.

Love listening to you speak, Bryant. You have a gift with breaking this down to digestible sound bites that we can grasp. Super excited to be an investor in this amazing innovation. Amazing work!

I am completely fascinated by your videos about your development of the third wave of AI. Your ideas are for me completely reasonable, and I’m very grateful that you have AI so well explained that I have understood what AI means. It does not seem to me exaggerated about the future - not at all! I share the values you describe in the last video of presentation. In our small fashion shop (18 people) we try to live these values also.

I've been closely following your work with New Sapience over the past several months now and have researched your websites, patents and watched all 15+ of your videos in their entirety.  Needless to say, I'm both fascinated and excited about what you're doing.  I previously invested in New Sapience through Start Engine (early on in my research) and am now ready to invest more.

Talking with a Sapiens (59:08)

Join New Sapience Founder and CEO Bryant Cruse and his sapiens, Helen, for an hour of conversation ranging from why ChatGPT is not ushering in the new millennium of AI to the difference between communication and creating an illusion of communication. Bryant does most of the talking as Helen still has a lot to learn about the everyday world and sometimes struggles with more advanced language skills such as finding the referents for pronouns.

Imitating Natural Intelligence (31:28)

In this session we examine traditional approaches to Artificial Intelligence which are characterized as “Imitation Intelligence” and discuss their limitations and dangers.

“Real AI” From First Principles (22:29)

In this session we present precise definitions for intelligence, language, and AI itself.

SI Fundamental Principles (29:20)

Learn how New Sapience took an entirely contrarian approach to Artificial Intelligence. We focused not on emulating how human brain creates knowledge but on the knowledge itself. We succeeded in synthesizing a compact, scalable, computable information structure from knowledge curated from human minds. Synthetic Knowledge gives computers something to think about. The log awaited age of thinking machines is at hand.

SI Origins (27:22)

There once was a cherished American ideal that began in Silicon Valley, the garage startup; a handful of individuals with a truly unique idea invent a new technology that grows to disrupt entire industries. In this session you will discover that the ideal is still very much alive as you learn how New Sapience grew from roots as diverse as philosophy and rocket science.

AI Scalability (18:45)

Scalability is a metric that expresses the ratio between a desired level of performance of a system and the amount of effort or resources required to achieve it. Poor scalability was the downfall of Symbolic AI, the first wave of Imitative AI and is proving to be even more of an issue of today’s generative AI applications. The New Sapience approach, Synthetic Knowledge, solves AI’s scalability problem, not by a little bit, but by orders of magnitude.

SI Applications and Markets (28:10)

This session covers the New Sapience business and revenue models, vast total addressable markets, and introduces planned products for businesses and consumers.

Risks and Concerns (29:05)

This session starts with a discussion of the risks that investors look for in an early-stage company like New Sapience but then focuses on risks and concerns about the technology itself. Dangerous AI is very much in public consciousness today with concerns about bias, spreading misinformation and even existential threats to humanity. Our technology, based on synthetic intelligence, has none of these shortcomings.

Societal Transformations (18:54)

The final session of our course discusses the breathtaking transformations to our society from sapiens, the long-awaited thinking machines with the comprehension to understand what we tell them and the intelligence to do what we ask.
